VARANASI: Two more persons injured in a fire in Durga puja pandal in Aurai area of Bhadohi district on October 2, died during treatment here on Friday, taking the death toll in the tragedy to nine. The two patients were undergoing treatment at the Sir Sunderlal (SSL) Hospital of Banaras Hindu University.

According to the officials, two local women — Seema Bind (25), daughter of Shankar Bind, and Manju Devi (40), wife of Suresh Vishwakarma — succumbed to burn injuries during treatment at the BHU hospital on Friday morning. “Despite the tireless efforts of the doctors for the last five days, they could not be saved,” officials said.
According to Bhadohi DM, in the fire incident which took place on October 2, a total of 75 persons had suffered burn injuries. Of them, seven have already succumbed. Among the 70 injured persons, 43 critically injured were admitted to the Trauma centre of BHU and SPG divisional hospital of Varanasi, four at SRN hospital of Prayagraj and 23 at different hospitals of Bhadohi district.
An FIR was also lodged against the members of puja organising committee under section 304A (causing death by negligence), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 337 (Causing hurt by an act which endangers human life), 338, 135 (abetment of desertion of officer) IPC, 135 of electricity (amendment) act 2003 and 188 CrPC.
