PRAYAGRAJ: In a major relief for authorities of five central jails and 72 district jails across the state, the process of posting as many as 3,682 jail warders is being taken up promptly to enhance the security of UP jails. While Naini central jail in the Prayagraj district will get 72 warders alone, as many as 450 warders will get postings in Prayagraj and Banda range district jails.
P N Pandey, senior jail superintendent of Naini Central jail told TOI that the work of verification of documents of newly recruited warders is underway and all warders will get postings by this month-end. The appointment of jail warders will boost the security and management of jails, he added.
He further added, “Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Board (UPPRB) has recruited as many as 3,682 warders and this will be helping district and central jail authorities to check the problem of staff crunch across UP jails.” Pandey, meanwhile, added that there was an acute crisis of staff at Naini central jail and the appointment of 70 warders would help jail authorities to enhance the security system in and around central jail.
Moreover, the appointment of warders would also help jail authorities to escort jailbirds either taking them to government hospitals for treatment or in the supervision of jails.
A senior jail official said, “Warders are high-ranking officials who supervise jails. A warder’s routine job also involves supervising security, inspections, carrying out disciplinary procedures, compiling reports, managing admissions and liaising with other departments staff who visit the jails, such as medical staff, probation officers, and social workers.”
