Sonia Gandhi: ‘We all have our compulsions, but … ‘: Sonia Gandhi urges opposition parties to plan for 2024 Lok Sabha polls | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Friday called upon the opposition parties to plan systematically for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with a single-minded objective of giving the country a government that believes in the values of the Constitution.
Chairing a virtual meeting of opposition parties, Sonia Gandhi stressed on unity and said there is simply no alternative to working cohesively together.
In her opening remarks at the meeting, Sonia Gandhi highlighted the determined unity demonstrated by all opposition parties for over twenty days in Parliament.
However, the larger political battle has to be fought outside Parliament, the Congress chief said.
“We all have our compulsions, but clearly, a time has come when the interests of our nation demand that we rise above them,” she said and added, “This is a challenge, but together we can and must rise to it because there is simply no alternative to working cohesively together.”
“We functioned in a coordinated manner with daily discussions among our floor leaders in Parliament. I am confident that this unity will be sustained in future sessions of Parliament as well,” Sonia said.
Leaders of 19 political parties attended the meeting. Among the parties who took part in the meeting were TMC, NCP, DMK, Shiv Sena, JMM, CPI, CPI(M), NC, RJD, AIUDF, VCK, Loktantrik Janata Dal, JD(S), RLD, RSP, Kerala Congress (Mani), PDP and IUML.
However, the Samajwadi Party, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the Bahujan Samaj Party were not there.
