Shopkeepers Selling Puja Items Hope To Beat Inflation, Record Brisk Business | Ranchi News

RANCHI: With Chhath a few days to go, the market is upbeat as shopkeepers said they are doing good business and hope to do the same in the next few days. The market is well prepared to handle the crowd of devotees who flock to buy items required for puja, they said.
Shakshi Sinha, a resident of Bardhwan Compound, said, “We began shopping two or three days prior to the festival so that if something is left out, we will have the time to purchase the missing item. Additionally, as the festival approaches, there is a rush in the market and every shop selling items witnesses a large crowd. So being early allows us to shop in peace.”
From fruits to bamboo baskets, Chhath puja items have flooded the market. Though prices of all items have risen, it hasn’t affected the business, shopkeepers said.
Md Noor, a seller at Zila School ground, said, “Though the prices of every item has increased, it has not affected the sales. We expect this trend to continue.”
Meanwhile, major brands have also offered discounts on their merchandise.
Mohammad Ezaz, a seller at Daily Market, said, “The discounts offered by the major brands will have no effect on our markets because middle-class consumers always prefer street vendors where they can get fresh stock. Large retailers offer discounts on old stock.”
