Noida: River flow at Okhla barrage to be reduced before Chhath | Noida News

NOIDA: Over 50,000 people are expected at the Okhla barrage on the Yamuna river bank to observe the Chhath Puja. In order to ensure their safety, police inspected the site on Wednesday and reviewed preparedness ahead of the festival. During the inspection, it was found that the level of the Yamuna river is high, so police have asked the authorities to close the gate so the water flow reduces.
“For the upcoming four-day-long festival of Chhath, our teams have been carrying out security arrangements and inspected the Okhla barrage. The site was also inspected by the top officials of the district. We have deputed eight divers in the area as a precautionary measure. We want to ensure that no incident of drowning happens during the festival,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, the additional DCP of Noida.
Police are also getting in touch with authorities to ensure no mishaps take place. “Heavy police force will be deployed in the area and barricades will be set up to control crowd. People are advised not to go deep into the water and celebrate the festival in a safe manner. We have got in touch with concerned authorities and urged them to clear the bushes on the banks for the convenience of the devotees,” added Dwivedi. TNN
