Mulayam Singh Yadav’s ‘shanti yagya’ held in Saifai; Akhilesh Yadav leads rituals | Kanpur News

KANPUR: The mood in Saifai, Etawah was sombre on Friday as the entire Yadav clan besides others attended the ‘shanti yagya‘, ‘shradhanjali sabha’ and ‘brahmbhoj’ of Samajwadi Party (SP) patron and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who passed away at Gurugram’s Medanta hospital on October 10.
On the occasion, the entire clan including Samajwadi president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, his wife Dimple Yadav, his uncles Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chief Shivpal Yadav, Abhay Ram Yadav, his cousin and former MP Dharmendra Yadav, his nephew and former Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, district panchayat president Abhishek Yadav and Prateek Yadav participated.
Akhilesh also tweeted a photo of him doing havan and captioned ‘Today Shanti Havan and Shraddha Suman in Saifai’. Several close associates of Mulayam and people of Saifai and Etawah also participated. The arrangements for ‘shanti yagya’ and ‘brahmbhoj’ were made at Mulayam’s ancestral residence while for ‘shradhanjali sabha’ at Mela ground in Saifai.All the family members offered ‘ahuti’ in the yagya and prayed for the peace of the departed leader’s soul.
Since the death of Mulayam on October 10, there has been an influx of people paying tribute at his ancestral house in Saifai. On Friday the 11th day of the death, five mahants, including Rasik Peethadheeshwar Janmejay Sharan, who came from Ayodhya, besides mahants from Kashi, Mathura and Haridwar started the shanti yagya amid chanting of mantras.
Tight security arrangements were in place at the residence of Akhilesh since the morning. The administration allowed only limited people to visit the ancestral house of Mulayam.
Barricading was raised at various junctions on the road leading to the house to avoid overcrowding. Separate arrangements for parking of vehicles were made.
Later, ‘brahmbhoj’ was organised in the evening wherein Akhilesh and his wife Dimple served food to 11 Brahmins. A crowd of people, including Bihar politician Pappu Yadav and former UP health minister Siddharth Nath Singh, were also present.
