Varanasi: Various events were organised to celebrate the 187th birth anniversary of the queen of Jhansi Rani Laxmibai in Varanasi on Sunday.
Rashtra Sevika Samiti and other organisations held different events in Assi area and in Cantonment to mark Rani Laxmibai’s birth anniversary. After paying floral tributes to the statue of Rani Laxmibai by Rashtra Sevika Samiti’s Kashi unit, a grand function was organised at Goenka Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, where students from various institutions also performed cultural activities. Samiti’s all India Sahkaryavahika Sunita Deldekar threw light on the contributions and struggle of Rani Laxmibai against British rulers. Bharat Vikas Parishad Shiva unit also held a function at Kirti Chowk in Cantonment area to mark the occasion. Commissioner of police A Satish Ganesh highlighted the how Rani Laxmibai is an inspiration for the society and women. tnn
