PRAYAGRAJ: Barely two days left for the festival of lights, bakery and sweet shops in Sangam City are flooded with the newer varieties to meet their customers’ demand. Majority of customers are now opting for bakery, chocolate and dry fruits as Diwali gifts rather than purchasing the traditional sweets.
Traders admitted that they have brought more dry fruit, chocolate and bakery gift boxed printed decoratively with Diwali wishes on gift hampers and packets”.
Nitin, a trader said, “Gone are the days when dry fruits, chocolate and bakery packs were bought by the elite people but things have changed and majority of customers are now asking for dry fruits and bakery products. This year, the demand for dry fruit, chocolates and bakery products has gone upmanifold compared to two previous years”.
Traders, this year, hope the sale would set new records after as majority of customers have shifted to dry fruits and bakery products.
Sweet and bakery shop owners are also taking all out efforts to convince their regular customers to purchase dry fruits over traditional sweets. “Around 50% of the customers purchase these dry fruit boxes to give others as Diwali gifts.This year, most of the shops have decided to go ‘green’ by introducing eco-friendly paper boxes instead of plastic containers to pack the dry fruits.”
Vijay Arora, president of the Prayag Vyapaar Mandal told TOI, “ Taste of city’s denizens has changed and they now prefer dry fruits, bakery products and chocolates as the means to share their joy on the occasion of festival of lights. While traditional sweets can be kept two or three days but when you are able to keep dry fruits or chocolates for more time, customers too prefer it”.
Interestingly, markets are flooded with eye-catching and appetizing packets of dry fruits and chocolates and have already attracted a section of customers who prefer to gift such packets to their relatives and loved ones on the festival day.
With branded companies launched attractive dry fruit packets, private groups and companies too have booked orders for the same. Different brands have also come up with attractive gift hampers of chocolates and dry fruits.
